Uzbekistan Joins the Hague System:
New Opportunities for Design Protection

As from 17th February 2025, Uzbekistan will become a member of the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs, administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This system allows businesses to protect their designs in multiple countries through a single application, significantly reducing costs and administrative efforts.

With Uzbekistan’s accession, the Hague System now covers over 90 contracting parties, including the EU, USA, China, and Japan. For companies operating in Uzbekistan or seeking to expand into Central Asia, design protection becomes much easier and more efficient.

Advantages of the Hague System:
Cost Efficiency: One application for multiple countries
Unified Process: Centralized management through WIPO
Flexibility: Protection can be extended to additional countries

Uzbekistan’s accession highlights the country’s growing importance as a business hub and strengthens the protection of intellectual property. Businesses should consider this development in their IP strategies.
