The European Patent Office (EPO) will adjust its official fees as of 1 April 2026. On average, the fees will increase by approximately 5%, which is way above the current inflation rate.
The increase affects, among others, filing, examination, grant and renewal fees. For applicants and patent proprietors, this will result in higher costs in European patent grant and maintenance proceedings.
It may therefore be advisable to review planned procedural steps and payment timings at an early stage.
