On 4 April 2022, the government of the republic of Chile deposited with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) its act of accession to the Protocol of the Madrid Agreement concerning the International Registration of Marks (the “Madrid Protocol”).
Chile’s accession to the Madrid System provides a convenient and cost-effective solution to obtain trademark protection as well as a simpler and less expensive administration of trademarks and also strengthens the status of the Madrid System.
For Chile the membership to the Madrid Protocol will enter into force on 4 July 2022.
With Chile’s accession to the Madrid Protocol the number of contracting parties to this agreement comes to 111, which then covers 127 countries. This difference in number occurs because some contracting partners comprise more than one country e.g. the European Union.
